As we celebrate our 50th anniversary this year, we As we celebrate our 50th anniversary this year, we want to share some of our history and look back on the journey that led us to where we are today.

High quality products start with high quality ingredients. Throughout our 50 years we have forged strong relationships with key ingredient suppliers. One of those suppliers is Gay Lea Foods. Skim milk powder, whey protein and whey protein concentrate, are co-products of dairy processing, and key ingredients in milk replacer. This photo is from a 1989 issue of the Gay Lea member newsletter, about their partnership with 'Grober farms'.

35 years later in 2020, Gay Lea Foods purchased Grober Nutrition. Given our long standing relationship as a purchaser of ingredients, the move was a natural fit. We are now proud to be part of a Canadian farmer-owned co-operative who shares our commitment to quality and innovation.

Continuing our commitment to innovation and quality, in 2015, we broke ground on a new state of the art fat filled powder facility in Auburn, NY. The facility began producing fat filled powder in 2016, and we still use this proprietary fat in our formulas today. Protein encapsulated fat is a key differentiator of Grober formulas. It allows for highly palatable formulas, that mix easily and are highly digestible.

What's in the bag? Vitamins and minerals are a cru What's in the bag? Vitamins and minerals are a crucial addition to milk replacer. But are all vitamin and mineral premixes created equal?

As with vitamin and mineral sources for mature animals, bioavailability of micronutrients depends on the source, form, and quality. When formulating milk replacers, a very important additional consideration is solubility and mixability. Quality micronutrient sources that would work well in a lactating ration for example, are most likely not suitable for use in milk replacer. If fat soluble vitamins (such as A, D, and E) separate rapidly from water, they will be left as a film on the side of a bottle or bucket. This is where the high cost of cheap premixes comes into play. The micronutrients left behind as a film or sludge have been bought and paid for, but not ingested by the calf.

All vitamin and mineral premixes used in Grober formulas have been rigorously tested for quality, solubility and mixability, ensuring every nutrient makes it in to the calf.

In 2009, we established the Grober Young Animal Development Centre (GYADC) at Canada’s Outdoor Park, now Discovery Farm Woodstock, home of @outdoorfarmshow. For the past 15 years, we have been conducting trials every summer at the GYADC. Many trials have been in collaboration with researchers from the University of Guelph, allowing us to not only advance our business, but the industry. The GYADC has been the birthplace of many innovative new formulas, specialty ingredients, and development of feeding and husbandry recommendations.

If you're feeding your calves whole milk, they may If you're feeding your calves whole milk, they may not be getting all the vitamins and minerals they need to thrive. That's why we created Promiks. For producers who have excess whole milk on farm and choose to feed it to calves, adding Promiks ensures your calves are getting all the nutrients they need.

Promiks contains iron, zinc, and vitamins D, E and B12, which are essential to calf health. It also contains our Pro Gro gut health blend, and DOSTO Oregano.

Abomasal bloat in lambs, also known as typhany, is Abomasal bloat in lambs, also known as typhany, is a major issue in lambs that often results in death.
Signs of small preweaning ruminants with abomasal bloat include swollen stomachs, lethargy, colic, and teeth grinding. While there are some treatment interventions available, most are unsuccessful. The key to stopping abomasal bloat is to focus on prevention rather than mitigation.

In our new #GroFact, we're going over what abomasal bloat is, what causes it and how to prevent it. Click the link in our bio to read.

Grober was founded in 1974 in Cambridge, Ontario. Initially a one-man operation, the milk replacer business was closely tied to the Grober milk-fed veal farm. This initial on-farm focus led us to create products driven by on farm practicality. Providing valuable products to producers is still a priority today. As the veal industry evolved, so did Grober. Over the years we have expanded the milk replacer business to now offer formulas for over 16 different species.
