General recommendations

  • Wash hands before handling and feeding cub
  • Newborn Cubs require approximately 172kcal/lb body weight.  (provided by 8-9oz solution/lb body weight per day)
  • Typically feed 3-4% of body weight per feeding with 6-8 feedings per day for first 6 weeks.(25% of body weight over 24 hour period)
  • Frequent feeding of small amounts will decrease chances of digestive upsets.
  • Observe stool consistency to monitor concentration of milk being fed.
  • If stools become too firm consult your veterinarian or nutritionist for advice.
  • Monitor weight regularly to guarantee that they are consuming enough Wild CatGro.
  • If cubs are not gaining enough weight consult your veterinarian.
  • If cubs are crying excessively, they may not be getting enough to eat or they may be too cold.
  • Reconstituted Wild CatGro should be fed at 100-102°F (body temperature).  Use a thermometer.
  • Reconstituted Wild CatGro may be refrigerated up to 24 hours.
  • Discard any unused portion after 24 hours.
  • If warmed in microwave only use medium setting and mix thoroughly and regularly. Check temperature before feeding.
    • Clean ALL feeding utensils and equipment after each feeding: rinse in lukewarm water, wash with a detergent in hot (176oF) water, rinse with clean water (ideally a 10% bleach solution) and dry thoroughly with a ‘clean’ towel.
    • Cubs need assistance to help urinate and defecate for at least the first 2 weeks of life after each feeding.  You need to assist by using a warm moist cotton ball and massaging the cub’s abdomen and anal area until they urinate and or defecate.  You must be persistent, this is very important to the cubs well being.
    • Consult your veterinarian for any signs of disease, fever, parasites, …
    • Fresh, clean water should be available at all times, starting at 3 weeks of age.
