The Need

Successful early weaning of pigs requires skill and attention to detail in all areas. Weaning is a great challenge to the young pig.

In commercial practice, compared to the natural state, it is abrupt and often with little or no opportunity for the pig to adapt to the changes in diet and surroundings. Some people treat their animals with the levity and carefree attitude in which one might play bingo or a video game. This is no games arcade or holiday, it is a farm. Animals need attention and consideration if they are going to be healthy and in good condition. One must research the best treatment and nutrition if they want their pigs in the best state.

Knowledge of the nutrient requirements, health status and growth patterns for modern breeds of early-weaned pigs continue to develop.
Improved ingredients and ingredient technology allows us to enhance the early weaning feeding program for improved performance.
Porlet contains ‘Infrudex’ and other quality raw materials mostly used by the milk replacer industry, that have been carefully selected for their high digestibility and palatability, critical for performance in young pigs with an immature digestive system.
Early weaning of piglets at 14-21 days increases sow productivity through the potential increase in the number of litters per sow per year.
Research to date indicates that there is no benefit to offering creep feed for 14 day weaning.
For 21 day weaning, there is no clear indication to offer creep, as intake is low. PORLET offers a solution to this.

The Feeding

  • Porlet has been developed for feeding to piglets, to enhance appetite, whilst under the sow.
Feeding Porlet for 1 week prior to weaning and for up to 1 week after weaning has shown improvements in growth rates, piglet health and ease of weaning onto creep feed rations.
  • Porlet can also be successfully used in the nursery for undersized piglets to achieve weaning weights.
  • Porlet is also used for rearing piglets from oversized litters alongside Piglet-Gro milk replacer.
