Quality Assurance
Quality is defined as “a degree or level of excellence”. Grober defines quality by finding the right combination of raw materials that can be easily digested by animals with immature digestive systems to achieve optimal growth and health.
Grober’s commitment to excellence begins with selecting food grade raw materials. Once selected, Grober meets with the supplier and sets specifications based on research and experience. As part of the selection process, Grober also tours the supplier’s facilities and operations.
Once a supplier is approved, each lot of product is tested at the on-site laboratory. In the lab, raw materials must pass standards for smell and taste –
much like the young animals’ own quality assessment. Milk ingredients must not be burnt since high temperatures will destroy milk proteins and become indigestible. Solubility is measured to ensure that once the final product reaches the farm, the product mixes well into water for an even feeding of nutrients to the animal. Raw materials that do not fall within specification will be rejected. All raw materials are held until testing is complete. Warehousing staff are notified through a network database that material is approved or rejected. Nothing enters the plant without first being approved by Quality Assurance staff.
Finished products are tested for mixability, smell and residue testing. Grober maintains a retained sample library of raw materials and finished product. Spot testing on finished products involves measuring the protein, ash and moisture content. Grober calibrates and ensures that the manufacturing process is efficiently blending the carefully selected raw materials into finished product. Routine testing of mixers establishes optimal batch size and mixing time.
Through HACCP (FeedAssureTM) accreditation and Grober’s own internal commitment to quality, the goals for excellence are always at the centre of what we do.
